Cop from Flordia part of the KKK

                Today I am making my muckraking article on a man named George Hunnewell from Fruitland Park, Florida Police department. He was investigated for being part of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). The article I am using was published on July 17, 2014.   

            George’s investigation of him being part of the KKK was brought upon him when his ex-wife Ann Hunnewell. He and his wife had got a divorce and she had turned him into the FBI. This had gone down along the line down to the chief deputy David Borst.

The investigation on George was in the FBI and then the news had gotten to the police department from an unnamed FBI source. They had received multiple documents on this and all of the documents were extremely blacked out, in the documents they never once had mentioned the FBI. The finding this out at the police department had led to George being fired and a resignation from Borst.

            When Ann had gone and told on George for being part of the KKK, they had record it and had her saying that her and her ex-husband was part of the KKK. When they had joined the KKK in 2008 and that there were no documents that had showed them being part of this operation. She had only received two things from the KKK. They had got an application for the group before they had joined, they also had received one newsletter but she hadn’t saved it. Ann had said the only reason they had joined the group was because of the chief at the time (Mark Isom) had thought that one of the other members the police station was in the group, that member was James Elkins.

            James and his wife (whose name is not mentioned in my article I was using) and the Hunnewell’s had gone out for dinner multiple times. They had become very good friends and after a few months James had asked George if he would like to join the KKK. He said that he did join, but only for “the spirt of the undercover investigation” as he clams, he also said that he didn’t believe in the ideology of the group.

            While Ann was in her interview with the state about the group, they had shown her multiple photos and asked her if she could identify any of the other people there. When she was looking she had recognized one of the men as Georges Chief deputy Borst. She said that she was always a little curious because of the conversations he had always had with James, but she wasn’t 100% sure that those conversations were about the KKK. But she was right that it was Borst. So later Borst was fired from being the Chief, After Borst was fired Isom had become Chief again, but then had resigned because investigators had found out that he had faked all his educational credentials he needed to become chief.

            Later after James had got George to join the KKK, Isom had told James he has one chance to resign from the Police Force in 2009. Later after Borst and George were fired they had refused to speak publicly, so no news outlets could reach them.

taking chance

                This last week my class of juniors and I had watched the movie taking chance. I’ve seen the movie before. It’s a very good movie, one of the better movies we have watched in class. Taking chance is a great movie on the war in Iraq and it shows how many soldiers we had lost and how their family, friends, and fellow platoon mates reacted with their death. it had showed how sad everybody was. In the movie they had showed how they move the dead soldiers and how many people have respect for those who serve and also how many people had served. I like that I now know how they do everything and how much work it takes to transport a dead soldier.

            I had learned a good amount of lessons from this film. Such as what happens when a soldier dies in battle, how they transport them home, how they clean up their bodies and belongings to get them back to their family for the funeral, and many more that I will bring up throughout the blog.

            I liked how they have soldiers come to the person’s house in the middle of the night no matter what time it is and they tell the parents that there son had died in battle. I like how respective they are toward everybody and all there soldiers. I like how they go ahead and clean up the body and everything he was where at the time for the funeral back at his home town or where ever he was going to be barred. I liked the fact that to transport the bodies home from the country where they died back to the U.S. in a metal cast cut full of ice with them in a body bag.

            I liked to be able to learn about the struggle that the families and the escorts go through after a soldier dies. Like when the soldier dies the family greaves and then when the escort takes the soldier home he learns how many people know what he’s doing and how many people respect and show gratitude to the soldiers when there driving with the body such as in the movie when the escort and the guy from the church are driving the body and him to the church from the airport.

            I liked it that when he got there he had constantly learned more and more about Chance Phelps the soldier he was carrying to the funeral home. This movie showed how many people were there the day he died and how many miss him, how many people actually missed him and that he always had a memory that would live on.

            In the movie he had got to get multiple thank you from random strangers which had help him realize how big of a thing he is doing for his country and he community and even the community he is taking him to. They were all fond to see that he had brought him home safety to his parents’ home town. He was happy to get there and see that when he went to the bar how many people had recognized him and wanted to sit and drink and tell war stories with him till the bar would close.

            Then the next day when he had gone to the funeral he had met with the family before the funeral. He had given them all of his belongings and a note from his platoon officer. Then after he gave them everything he stood up and said that he was talked to a lot of people from about what hes doing and one flight attendant had given him a cross with Jesus on it and he said that “he thought the lady was giving it to him, but she was really giving it to chance”.

Bowling for Columbine

 


                Last week we watched a great movie on the school shooting in columbine, “Bowling for Columbine”. The columbine movie was made to let people know that they don’t want it to happen again. It was the worst massacre in a school ever, it only to two kids with guns that came into the school to shoot children.

            This movie taught us about our second amendment, our rights to be able to own guns. The amendment states that anybody can own a gun unless you have a felony; which means you were caught doing something highly illegal such as: killing people, killing animals out of season, shooting birds that are endangered or protected by the U.S. We all have the right to buy guns when were 18 and buy pistols when were 21 but you can be 18 to own a pistol and conceal carry it.

            Did the media and guns have something to do with the Columbine shooting? We will never know, we have to assume or guess because the kids that did it shot themselves. Everybody guessed and blamed America for the shooting because of the games they played, the things they did, and what they did at the school. The kids that did the shooting used illegal weapons, played lots of shooting and killing games, but they also bowled which wasn’t at all blamed for the massacre.

            Do guns kill people or do people kill people? Well to believe that fact that it takes someone or something to pull the trigger on a gun. So this kind of thing being said its people that kill people. It takes motive and a person built with a lot of anger to want to go kill someone but they use guns because it’s just easier. Now for the people that say guns kill people make me want to say if guns kill people then that means that pens miss spell words and computers make typos.

            If there is anything to make schools safer should we do it or not? If its possible to make everything safer then I feel we should do it just to make sure it doesn’t happen as easy as it would at the time this shooting happened. What does the future hold for America in schools? I believe there will probably be more laws and ways to lock the doors and everything in schools.

            What does the future hold for gun laws? There are going to be more and more laws. It’s going to make it harder to get guns and ammo. For instance right now it’s getting hard to find rim fire ammo.
